Stick To The Essentials In The Beginning

After giving birth we all have to face the fact that we are not Wonder Woman. You aren’t going to be able to do everything. You need to focus on your baby and of course on yourself. You will need plenty of rest and you also need to keep your stress levels down.

Only do the household tasks that are absolutely essential to you. It’s going to be wise to keep on top of the laundry and to keep surfaces clean but you don’t need to be cleaning the oven and washing windows. Those things can wait.

Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help

You have just given birth. You need time to recover and focus on your baby. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. Delegate the tasks that you can to Daddy, he will understand that you need to rest.

If you have a good support network of family and friends, use it. Even if it’s just to stack the dishwasher or fold some laundry, every little helps.

Don’t Expect Perfection

No matter how house proud you are when you have a newborn baby at home you will need to lower your standards. Your home is no longer going to be perfect and nobody will expect it to be.

Your baby is going to take up almost all of your time and of course you need to recover from the birth. Not everything is going to get done as soon as you would like and that’s just how it is.

You will find that once you let go of unrealistic expectations you will feel much better about the whole thing. Stick to the basics, set yourself realistic goals and the stress levels will lower rapidly.

Have A Cleaning Schedule (kind of)

Now you don’t have to be super strict about this, especially in the beginning. Even if you are just sticking to the basics for now if you have a good idea of what needs to be done and a basic list of tasks you are more likely to be productive.

I know it can be tough but if you set yourself a few tasks each day and stick to them you will be surprised at how much gets done. Just remember not to overdo it, you still need your rest.

Keep A Vacuum Upstairs

When you feel well enough to begin vacuuming you may find it helpful to keep a vacuum cleaner upstairs.

This way you won’t need to carry a heavy vacuum clean up a flight of stairs. If you alone with your baby you will probably want to take baby up with you so this will leave your hands free to do so.

Have Hand Sanitzer In Every Room

Germs are not your friend! You need to make sure everything is sparkling and germ free when you have a newborn at home.

The most important thing to keep clean and free from germs are your hands. When you have a baby you will touch a lot of icky stuff. Always keep your hands clean and disinfected to avoid cross contamination.

The best way to do this is to stock up on hand sanitizer  Buy it in bulk and keep one in every room. That way you will always have one to hand.

Make Sleep Time Work For You

When you have a newborn to take care of you can’t let any time go to waste. That includes when you are sleeping.

There are a lot of things that can be done while you are asleep at night. Put a load of laundry in the machine and if you gradually stack your dishwasher during the day you can set it away just before you go to sleep.

If you feel like treating yourself you could always invest in a robotic vacuum cleaner  Just set it before you go to bed and it will vacuum your floors while you are sleeping.

Make Meals In Batches

One of my favourite tips for the third trimester of pregnancy is to prepare and freeze meals ready for after your baby is born.

Of course you can only fit so much in the freezer so I recommend carrying on with this while your baby is small. Batch cook several dishes, divide them up and freeze them.

After a few hours cooking you could have enough meals for a couple of weeks. It’s going to save you so much time and energy in the long run.

Invest In A Baby Carrier

One of the best things you can do is to invest in a baby carrier. You will be able to get on with chores, move around your home, and be completely hands free! The good news is that you can get breastfeeding friendly carriers so that if you are nursing a hungry baby won’t stop you.

ring sling is ideal for newborns as it will keep your baby snuggled close into you. It’s is easy to adjust and not too bulky.

You Can Do A Lot With A Baby Wipe

As a new mom you are going to have a lot of baby wipes around. Did you know that there’s a lot more you can do with them than just cleaning up at diaper change?

If you keep a pack of wipes near you at all times you will find there’s so much you can do with them. Use them to quickly wipe up spills on surfaces, wipe hands and faces, and to quickly wipe up any spillages on the carpets to avoid stains.

There are probably a million and one uses for them, I found them to be a lifesaver when my son was small. They are super affordable too. I use these ones and I couldn’t fault them. They are soft but strong enough to clean up spills. They are also safe to use on hands and faces.

Tidy Up At Night

Now I’m not a morning person and becoming a mom doesn’t suddenly make you one. You can take my word for it. So when you have been up several times throughout the night feeding your baby you will want to make mornings as easy as possible.

The trick is, as you are walking through your house to go to bed at night pick up and tidy up. If you see anything out of place put it right, dump any trash, and put things away. You are going to thank yourself for it in the morning.

Once you know how to clean your house with a baby at home it will get easier. Let me know how you get on.
